In this pavilion the collection of 65 icons is exhibited and is dated between the 14th and 19th centuries. The works of the great masters of the Albanian iconography are on show beginning from Onufri, his son Nikola, Onufër Qipriotin, Kostandin Shpatarakun, David Selenicasin, Kostandin and Athanas Zografi, Mihal Anagnosti, the Çetiri brothers, Kostandin Jeremonaku and many anonymous authors.
A special mentioning goes to Onufri, the great Albanian painter, the great iconographer of the 16th century, who has created works of an elevated qualitative level and has strongly influenced the development of the byzantine art in Albania.
Onufri creates its figures with lively colours that are full of light, like the “Onufri red” called “non-reproducible” by the critics. Very often the images are characterized by painstaking iridescent polychrome mantles. Through the transgressions of the byzantine canons of painting, Onufri introduced animated and local elements in his work becoming one of the founders of the Albanian school of iconography.
In the entire section the influence of the work of Onufri is evident. Ohers important schools of iconography are also illustrated: Berat, Korça, Voskopojë, Elbasan (Shpat), Myzeqe, Gjirokasta. The iconostasis of the church of Saint Gjon Vladimir in Elbasan (19th century) is also exhibited, consisting of the works by the Albanian master wood engravers, and fragments of the iconostasis of the Cathedral Church of Elbasan designed by Mihal Anagnosti.
